While in college I had the opportunity to tutor English and Spanish as well as Reading. I tutored both at the two-year college I was attending as well as privately. After I received my undergraduate degrees, I taught 7th and 8th grade Spanish and have been in the business world ever since. I am fully bilingual and have translated documents and have interpreted for different people in many different situations. The best part of being a tutor is the opportunity to coach a student one-on-one and taking time to explain concepts and reach people using different learning styles. It is very exhilerating to see a student grasp the material by coaching them to understand. In addition to being an experienced tutor, I also have many years in corporate training and coaching experience so I can work with adults and children with equal competence and comfort. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish from the University of California as well as a Master's degree in Business Administration. The best tutor is one that is equally proficient at both languages. Growing up I learned both Spanish and English so I became a highly effective translator and interpreter, studied Spanish literature at the University of Alcala de Henares (Madrid), Spain while completing my Bachelor's degree in Spanish at UC Irvine. I not only studied abroad but lived and worked (tutored) while studying in Spain. Prior to studying abroad, I tutored English and Spanish while in junior college and have extensive knowledge and experience with Spanish language arts including grammar and literature. I have tutored Spanish several times during and after my academic career. As I stated previously, before graduating from the University of California, I tutored English and Reading both at the junior college level and privately for different individuals. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of California Irvine where I studied many different authors and facets in English literature. I have expertise in grammar, literature, and essay writing and can help you get proficient in English. I have extensive knowlege and understanding of American and World History. I can assist in understanding the different aspects and influence that shape history including cultural, social, and political implications that go into the understanding of history. History is not just about dates and facts, but is impacted by cultures, social or societal considerations, as well as politic implications. Case-in-point, we have all learned that Abraham Lincoln wanted to abolish slavery, but in addition to Lincoln seeing the evils of slavery first-hand as a young man, there was a more practical and economic reason for ending slavery. Slavery in the South provided the South with low or no cost labor that a capitalist like Lincoln saw as an unfair economic advantage the South had over the North. Understanding the motivations of historical events, such as the Emancipation Proclamation, allow a student to understand the history is more than just memorizing dates. History tells the story how people interacted during their lifetime with circumstances they encountered. Knowing how they approached their circumstances (or their history), will allow us to not repeat some of the same mistakes they made. I am a well-rounded individual with extensive tutoring knowledge and experience. But more importantly, I have real-world business experience where I have utilized my academic knowledge. I have been a business coach in the corporate world. I look forward to helping you learn from my many years tutoring or being in the business world. Hobbies
I have been an amateur astronomer for several years. I have had opportunities to view some periodic and obscure comets, planets such as Saturn and Jupiter, as well as some better know nebulae such as the Orion nebula. I hope to one day see, the often difficult to see, Horsehead nebula (which is near Orion) through a telescope. I am also into small electronic repairs and home improvement projects.
